In the Object Relations Training, we explore the object relations approaches that form the cornerstones of psychotherapy. From Freud to the present day, we will examine the theories of Freud, Mahler, Klein, Stern, Bowlby, Bion, Winnicott, Jacobson, Fairbairn, Guntrip, Kohut, Volkan, Fonagy, Kernberg, and Masterson through the course of their theoretical development. In this training, we will also share in detail the definitions and a comparison of object relations terminology, as well as the implications of these theories for clinical practice. We will focus on how object relations are to be addressed in the therapeutic relationship and how the therapist is to manage the processes of splitting, introjection, identification, projection, projective identification, transference, and countertransference. Through the concept of therapeutic neutrality, we will explain how a neutral relationship can be established despite all of the existing object relations structures of both the client and the therapist.
